We were invited guests for a relaxed and casual weeknight dinner. Our host wanted to try El Torito Cafe. Frankly, when I saw it i would not think to stop in. It is neighborhood-modest in appearance and it was surrounded by parked cars. Once inside everyone on staff was remarkably polite and friendly. The owner, a lovely lady, visited our table after being informed it was our first visit. She gave us a warm and sincere welcome. It was started by her grandmother, and a daughter manages it. The food is original and good in the way a family's tradition of generations before, is warming when consumed. The rice that is included on the plate is light, authentic, fresh and, though an afterthought at most restaurants, finds prominence in the flavor profile for the dish, much better than a supporting role. Recommended: tamale, enchiladas, margaritas! Clean, as in busy clean, this is a popular place. Worth a visit, as it is modestly priced therefore a small risk to take from the much more expensive restaurants a short distance away at twice or three times the cost.
They took forever to bring my food out.
I've eaten here regularly for the last couple years and love it here. The food is great and the customer service is outstanding. Staff constantly check to make sure everything is okay at your table. I appreciate feeling like a valued customer. I have recommended this place and taken friends here to enjoy a meal.
I really enjoyed this small, out-of-the-way Mexican restaurant on Boulder Highway. The food was delicious and portions large. Our server, Lucy, was patient and just fantastic. Great place to go if you want authentic Mexican food.
Always amazing genuine Mexican food. sometimes there's a wait for getting food, always a wait to be seated but worth it. Really recommend coming here!
