This has been one of our favorite places so it was very disappointing to see all the changes that have made it go down hill. In the past the hush puppies were plentiful and the service was excellent. This time we had to pay upfront and we only got three hush puppies with the meal. We were then told the usual honey butter that accompanies the hush puppies was an extra charge. It seemed that the server was the only person there. She greeted new customers, served, cleaned and may have been cooking as she would disappear into the kitchen for long periods.
It's basically a fast food restaurant now. Limited people working and there is no free refills on anything. You have to pay for a simple refill of soda.
First time visit, we've been wanting to come in a while. Wasn't disappointed at all and definitely will be back again. We took takeout but want to sit inside next time. Yum!
This place was great. The fried oysters and alligator bites were cook to perfection. Make sure you give your food time to cool because it's made to order fresh. Don't forget to try the sweet butter with your hush puppies. You will fall in love.
I'm old school and I happen to love seafood that being said. I remember as a kid having Hush Puppy in the 80,s there was great fresh fish the hush puppys were seasoned to a tee. Now it's just plain old corn batter and freezer burnt fish. Not that it's the fault of the employees the service was great. But the recipes have definitely changed and it taste like it was just yanked out of a dusty old garage freezer.
